Detective Fairbanks and Elsa are reeling from the discovery of Theodosia Birchwood still alive after having been missing for 25 years; desperate to break through to the catatonic woman, Fairbanks recalls the foggy details of her case.
In the 1950s Oklahoma, FBI Agents Reed and Milner are tasked with infiltrating a cult run by Dexter Venito; as Milner embraces the cult, Reed grows closer with Dexter's wife, Theodosia, and he becomes alarmed at the cult's aims.
