Roger takes Vicky to the diner to confront Burke; Sam is angry when he realizes Maggie has been checking up on him; Roger accuses Burke of trying to kill him; Roger is unmoved by Vicky's story.
Vicky tells Carolyn that Roger's crash was not an accident; Malloy asks Burke about Roger's crash and Wilbur Strake; Vicky gets a letter from the foundling home; Burke makes a mysterious phone call.
Burke stops at the Evans cottage looking for Sam; Sam joins Roger at the diner in the inn; Burke offers Sam a painting commission; Carolyn tells Roger the constable is on his way.- David hides his magazine when he hears Vicky; Roger tells Constable Carter that he suspects Burke tried to kill him; David eavesdrops as Vicky recounts her story to the constable; David knocks the wrench off the table.
- The constable heads to the diner to talk to Burke; Joe glowers when Burke stops to speak to Carolyn; Burke tells Carolyn that his plans have changed; Burke talks to Bronson again by phone.
- David snoops in Vicky's room; Vicky shares her concerns about David with Elizabeth; Elizabeth and Roger discuss Vicky's letter; Vicky sees her letter is gone again and goes to David's room, but she finds something else.
- Vicky confronts David about the valve and he gets hysterical; the constable explains why he can't arrest Burke; David tells Elizabeth that Vicky tried to hurt him; the constable plans to search Burke's room; Vicky tells Elizabeth where the valve is.
- Vicky explains to Carolyn why she and Elizabeth are looking for David; Burke, in Bangor, meets with Bronson to look at Collins' family finances; David's magazine is found in Vicky's drawer; a boy is caught trying to break into Burke's room.
- Burke returns to Collinwood and confronts Carter about the search of his room; Maggie encounters David in the hallway at the inn; Maggie questions Roger when he arrives to get David; David has vanished.
- Elizabeth blames Vicky for David running off; Burke finds David waiting outside his room; Carolyn upbraids Elizabeth for blaming Vicky; Burke tells David that his parents used to be Burke's friends.
