Synopsis
Peg (Marlee Matlin) is the deaf mother of a hearing child, Lisa (Allison Silva). When Peg's husband is killed in a drunk-driving accident, she suffers a breakdown and her mother, Marge (Lee Remick), steps in to temporarily take care of Lisa. Problems arise when Peg recovers and Marge does not want to surrender Lisa. Despite the objections of her husband (Josef Sommer), Marge files for legal custody of her granddaughter, and a bitter mother-daughter conflict ensues.
