After just two days in the Arctic, the critical demands of the oil exploration sites are testing the limits of the truckers and their machines; mechanical failures threaten to halt operations; Rick has a costly mishap; Drew seeks a job.
Before the first storm of the ice road season strikes, Davey Lennie is called to rescue a stranded trucker; a blizzard makes ice roads impassable and dangerous, shutting down operations; Rick has two accidents in four days.
MGM breaks camp to move everything to a new base, including its 135-foot, $250,000 derrick -- the tallest and most expensive structure in the Arctic; Drew Sherwood's first big rig solo is only to deliver junk food; a storm strikes.
After the storm clears, all the truckers are ready to roll except Rick, who is on the verge of quitting and seeks advice from Hugh; Jerry makes a second attempt at moving the MGM camp with a "two trucking" technique.
After delivering the fragile 135-foot derrick to the MGM exploration site, the truckers must also transport its base, an 80-ton substructure that ranks as the heaviest and most-dangerous load of the season.
