Celebrate Earth Day with Sir David Attenborough on Philo

By Michael Monson 8 min read April 4, 2025

This Earth Day, we not only celebrate the planet that’s home to every living creature, but we also celebrate the man–the legend–who has, for more than half a century, used his vision and voice to bring the stories of those creatures to life.

Sir David Attenborough, the knighted biologist, writer, and pop culture icon who turns 99 next month, is best known for his nature films, documentaries, and series. But did you know that he has a legendary career in television that spans nearly 70 years? That’s right—you have Sir David to thank for commissioning Monty Python’s Flying Circus for the BBC.

So, as we give Mother Earth her flowers, we also tip our hat to the man who’s brought us breathtaking images of our blue planet and sidesplitting comedy to our TVs with a collection of his most popular shows and series.
