On Jul. 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin land on the Moon -- eight years after President John F. Kennedy's Moon Shot speech to a joint session of Congress. Smithsonian Channel celebrates the 50th anniversary of this historic event with a 6-part series that tells the entire story of NASA's human spaceflight program, documenting the urgency, uncertainty and excitement that characterized the early days of the Space Race. "Apollo's Moon Shot" showcases rare artifacts from the vaults of the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, including John Glenn's camera, Apollo 11's command module and space boots covered in lunar dust.
