Set in a storybook Connecticut town populated by an eclectic mix of dreamers, artists and everyday folk, this multigenerational drama about family and friendship centers around Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter, Rory. Lorelai owns the town's bed-and-breakfast, the Dragonfly Inn, with best friend/chef Sookie, and contends with weekly dinners with eccentric, well-off parents Richard and Emily Gilmore (who always have something to say about their daughter's life). After high school, Rory attends Yale University but frequently returns to Stars Hollow to visit her mom.

Jason's father, Floyd, exposes Jason and Lorelai's secret relationship and brings a lawsuit against Jason and Richard for taking his clients.
Lorelai angrily confronts her father about his treatment of Jason, after Jason tells her that he and Richard are no longer in business together.
Depressed over the failure of his marriage, Luke resorts to a self-help tape and suddenly realizes he already knows who his soul mate is; Luke's sister announces that she is getting married; Lorelai stresses over the opening of The Dragonfly Inn.
All of Stars Hollow turns out for Liz's (Kathleen Wilhoite) Renaissance-themed wedding; Jess walks Liz down the aisle, and Lorelai and Luke share a romantic dance, after which Luke asks Lorelai out on a date.
Lorelai invites friends and family to a test run of the opening of the Dragonfly Inn, but preparations for the big day keep her from thinking about Luke's feelings for her.
Lorelai learns that Rory slept with her married ex-boyfriend, Dean; Luke is relieved that Lorelai wants to pursue their romantic relationship; after announcing her separation from Richard, Emily leaves for Paris.
