Philo is a next-generation IPTV platform that lets viewers watch content on their favorite devices with efficient search, insightful discovery, and effortless sharing. We currently deliver our service through private, secure campus data networks so residential students can enjoy TV wherever and whenever they want on campus.
Students want to watch prime-time TV, live news, sports, and entertainment not only on TVs in their dorm rooms, but also on laptops, smartphones, and tablets in the dining halls and lounges around campus. Philo provides this service through an integrated platform with a sleek guide, network DVR, and on-demand services like HBO GO®.
How it all started
Philo began as the solution to a basic problem: two Harvard students wanted to watch TV on campus, where traditional TV wasn’t available.
So, instead of taking no for an answer, they covered their room in tin foil to pick up TV channels that were coming in over the air, streamed those channels to their laptops, and started watching live TV. Soon, their friends were watching too.
Philo was officially born.
Today, the tin foil is long gone, but Philo’s determination to bring next-generation IPTV entertainment to students is stronger than ever. Not only is Philo now the only way to watch TV at Harvard, but we’ve developed cutting-edge technology to bring it to colleges around the country. From Boston to San Francisco, Philo has become the go-to service for college students to watch TV on campus.
